Google Chrome introduced a feature to check the strength of your passwords.

Having strong passwords has been conventional security advice for some time. Luckily for Google Chrome users, the latest upgrade looks to take it a step further.

According to reports, the browser is working on a new feature that would quickly indicate if your passwords are strong, or weak.

Google Workspace‘s parent company is obviously intending to aid users who are uncertain about the security of their login data. They are doing so by incorporating the password checker feature right into Chrome instead of users depending on third-party services.

This feature will be introduced in an edition of ChromeOS that is coming soon. It will be named as Password Strength Indicator.

It enables a password strength indicator while entering the password during a sign-up and password change process. So, the feature will only apply to people generating new passwords or changing existing ones.

As of now, Password Strength Indicator is marked as approved. Therefore, right now it is in the testing and development phase. It is expected to roll out soon for a larger public.

Chrome is already assisting users in staying secure online by providing a variety of password-related features, including an in-built password manager.

This service aims to preserve current passwords. It also features a password generator to assist users in creating secure, unique, and complicated passwords for their accounts. Now it also keeps comments with your passwords, providing for additional reminders or context. It also keeps the information about distinguishing between a business and personal account.

Chrome for Android users are also protected by Google’s Duplex on the Web technology. This can automatically replace any passwords it suspects have been compromised in a hack or data breach. It provides a pop-up message informing the user that they are in danger.

Instead, Google Assistant can also direct users to the change password page for certain services. If it feels the need to update the logins, it can also recommend a strong password.

Google is trying to mend Chrome’s reputation as it was accused of privacy failure and faced a privacy lawsuit. The company has been in hot waters for using sensitive client data while being on private browsing mode. This password strength indicator is Google’s attempt to remedy the situation. Will it work or not, only time can tell!
