Instagram Stories also has a “captions sticker” that instantly transcribes the audio into subtitles without the use of third-party software. This is a useful option for both producers and viewers, since live-captioned videos are more available to those with hearing impairments and others who choose to watch videos without music.
The new caption stickers, unlike the automatic captioning used on live IGTV streams, look more like deliberate video features than basic text at the bottom of the screen—though you can always go for the plain subtitle look if you choose.
You can adjust the caption’s location, color, height, and font, as well as edit the captioned text, much like with most Instagram stickers. This is handy for when the software mishears an expression. You may also draw under or over the onscreen captions with the pen feature.
Caption stickers are only available in English at the moment, but they’ll only be available to iOS and Android users in English-speaking countries. The sticker will soon be used in Instagram Reels posts, and it could be introduced into other forms of Instagram video material in the future, according to Instagram.
How to use Instagram Stories caption stickers (and, eventually, Reels)
- Open the Instagram app and create a new Reels or Story footage. You may also choose to share a video from your device’s library.
- Pick the Sticker icon from the editing choices at the top when editing the video.
- Choose “Captions” from the drop-down menu.
- Place the sticker in the desired location. As the video runs, you’ll see a preview of the text.
- If required, tap a word to edit it, and then use the sticker editing options to adjust the look and style of the caption.
- Upload the video until you’ve done recording it. When the video runs, the subtitles will appear automatically.
