The Workspace of Google’s parent company cell network provider, Google Fi, has revealed a data breach. It is most likely connected to T-recent Mobile’s security disaster, in which hackers stole millions of users’ personal information.

TechCrunch obtained an email stating that the Google Workspace company recently received a suspicious activity alert from the organization’s major network provider. Furthermore, the activity was linked to a third-party support system containing a “small quantity” of Google Fi customer data.

Google Fi uses T-Mobile and US Cellular for network access, which suggests that the breach is related to the most recent T-Mobile breach. This breach gave hackers access to a wealth of personal data belonging to 37 million consumers. This included billing addresses, dates of birth, and T-Mobile account information. This is the sixth time T-Mobile has been hacked since 2018.

Google Fi breached

In the case of Google Fi, Workspace Google’s parent company claims that hackers gained access to restricted consumer information. Including phone numbers, account status, SIM card serial numbers, and information about customers. Additionally mobile service plans such as whether they have selected unlimited SMS or international roaming.

Additionally, Google claims hackers did not steal users’ personal information, credit card information, passwords, or the contents of phone conversations.

Google Fi clients have reported in Reddit posts that they received emails informing them that they had their phone numbers temporarily hijacked (called SIM swapping). Meanwhile, several emails informed them that “no action is needed.”

According to Google, the invaders transmitted their number for about two hours. They may have used these phone numbers to send and receive phone calls and text messages. Furthermore, It is used by hackers to gain access to the victim’s other internet accounts protected by the same but hijacked phone number.

Google’s Official Statement

Google needs to confirm the event was related to the current T-Mobile breach. It’s unclear how many Google Fi customers have been affected by the incident. Moreover, Google has not disclosed the overall number of mobile customers it has.

During an email sent to clients, the company stated that it was working with an unnamed network provider to identify and implement procedures to protect the data on the third-party system. It went on to say that there was no access to Google’s networks or any systems managed by Google.
