Microsoft which is known for products like Office 365 has discreetly reversed a modification introduced with Windows 11 that sparked outrage and dissatisfaction among a substantial number of users.

With the most recent Windows 11 upgrade, which is presently being rolled out, modifying the OS system’s default web browser is as easy as simply pressing a button.

The new system is a vast improvement over the prior setup, that compelled users to manually register their browser choice for every file extension (.HTML, .HTM, .PDF, and so on).

Ever since the release of Windows 11 in 2021, Microsoft which is famous for products like Microsoft Teams has been chastised for attempting to utilize the new operating system in order to transform Microsoft Edge into a legitimate contender in the browser industry.

In addition to making, it more difficult to alter the preferred web browser in Windows 11, the company made efforts to redirect any links included inside its own services (for example, the Start Menu) to Edge, regardless of which browser was set as the default choice.

Considering the scale of the Windows installation base, you’d assume such initiatives had a significant impact on Microsoft Edge’s share of the market. However, according to recent statistics, the browser has still been unable to catch up to Google Chrome or Safari browser, which control a collective 82 percent market share.

In the company’s defense, the corporation seems to have heeded the public’s outpourings of rage. With the recent Windows 11 upgrade, changing the preferred browser is a one-click operation that can be done from the default apps menu in Settings.

Instead of forcing Windows users to adopt Edge, the company will depend on a regular stream of feature improvements to persuade consumers naturally. For instance, in recent months, the browser has received improvements that enable users to fix performance problems, protect against new cyberattacks, and freely move between numerous profiles.
